US understands ‘strategic significance’ of AUKUS: Richard Marles

Defence Minister Richard Marles says the Trump administration is “positive” about AUKUS.

The Washington Post has reported US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has given Mr Marles a personal assurance that AUKUS is safe.

“I’ve had numerous conversations with American counterparts, really since the inauguration of the Trump administration, where there’s been really positive statements made about AUKUS,” Mr Marles told Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.

“I’ve said all along that I’m really confident about the proceeding of AUKUS under the Trump administration.”
